Clinic Craziness!

HEY GUYS! It’s been a while, but I have SO many stories to share!

I’ve been struggling a bit with the desire to feel connected to things back home and being completely saturated by all things Zambia. The more thought I have put in to it, and prayer I have had, I realize I can have both; sharing stories of a different life I’m currently living with those I love should be natural : ) so here I am!

Allow me to just catch y’all up real quick. . .

August 26th was a v crazy day. I experienced something I had never experienced before, and I am learning to talk about it more because it usually gets a good laugh out of people hehehe. I was working in the reception area taking vitals and signing people into the register for records when a 16 y/o girl came in with a pretty deep gash on her left eyebrow. After taking vitals I escorted her to a multipurpose room in which malaria testing, in patient care, small procedures, and such are done. With one the nurses, Field (correct like a wheat field hehehe), we began preparing for stitches! To be honest I was v excited as I had never done stitches before & the opportunity seemed prime! He showed me how to do it and then I began to attempt to stitch. For some reason I began to get very nervous. . . & as no anesthesia was given to this poor girl, I could see and feel her pain as I continued to stitch. As Field was helping me tie the suture, I felt myself go blind. . . I couldn’t see what he was doing, everything began to blur. Melanie who had just come into the room heard me say “I can’t see. . .” so she quickly grabbed me the high stool in the room and I sat. Next thing I know, everything went black and I couldn’t think properly, I kept telling myself to wake up. . . just wake up. . . my knees hurt & I feel someone help me up and carry me to a bed. I HAD FAINTED & IT WAS SO WEIRD!!!!! Ahahaha one of the weirdest experiences I’ve ever had as it was my first experience with fainting & it’s not fun lol. Field laughed a lot & then mentioned how I am not the first SM to faint during stitches which alleviated my worries of feeling “weak” but hey! it happens. The rest of the morning I was v weak and super shook. I recall telling my mom later that day about the incident, still feeling slightly embarrassed, & she LAUGHED! So hard ahahha she then said “Can I please tell people!?”. . . My mother y’all! Jk I love her & I’m glad she was able to help me lighten the mood w my experience!

ANYWAYS! That same night, we had to nurse on a laboring mother. We did q2 hour checks on her to check dilation and monitor contractions—it was a long night! Although I shouldn’t really say much because I wasn’t in labor for many hours #yikes! On the morning of August 27th however, our dear mom gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Tahbou. I have never seen such a hairy little baby before but soo beautiful :’) Birth will 5ever amaze me. How a living being had been previously incubated within the mother for 9 months in fluids to then be birthed into air and breathe and live and learn to love & LIVE is truly God’s goodness made manifest.

SO blessed to be here. I was just telling my good friend Miyoko from back home, how weird it feels to be so far away from “life” + mixed w feelings of being favored to be in a place I can just work for Him and have everything be so saturated in Him. Not sure if that point comes through well, but I can’t think of any other way to phrase what I feel heheh.

Till next time,

Caro <3

PS I finished the book shown above that I HIGHLY recommend everyone read. "One Miracle After Another" is the incredible, prayerful story of Pavel Goia. His trust in God while living in Communist Romania is so powerful to witness, so check it out :)
